MATYODESIGN

Matyodesign is from Tard, a little village in Borsod County in Hungary. The ladies living there are making classical Hungarian ’matyó’ style embroideries. The aim for the small enterprise is to keep the samples alive, to connect the traditions and the young metropolitan culture, the current fashion. Matyodesign gives employment to 27 ladies from Tard in a county with a high unemployment rate.

Forgotten samples underestimated local knowledge, and culture considered unnecessary. These are all being rethought and placed in the modern world.

The Mission of Matyodesign is not only to keep the tradition alive but to recreate it on a high-quality level, to keep its uniqueness but make it to be resilient to the challenges of the current trends. But not only in fashion! The principles that lead Matyodesign to resonate to the modern world: ethical corporate model, creating timeless values instead of disposable products, responsible shopping and sustainability. Matyó is on the list of UNESCO’s intellectual heritage. It is possible to shop on the webshop and at 30 stores. Matyó creates a bridge between old and new, young and older generations, between the present and the past.

They are made by hand and from the heart.
